Meet Papa Abdoulaye, Sporting director at the french football academy !
Tell us about yourself !
I was born in Dakar and raised in Paris,France. Influenced by my father, I started playing soccer when I was 3 years old and quickly moved to the east of France. I became a member of the FC Metz academy at the age of 8.
I played for Senegal, in the category of U17, U19, U20 African cups, several international tournaments, and Olympic Games qualifiers.
Can you tell us about your soccer experience in New York ?
I moved to the US in 2014. I graduated from the Université de Lorraine with a License in Kinesiology & Exercise Science and New York University with a master's degree in Sports Science.
I started coaching as a 12 years old volunteer, working at the grassroots level with small clubs and teams that are affiliated with the professional team of Metz. I then moved on in a head coaching positions in professional youth academies, before taking on roles with educational and sporting organizations. I joined the French Football Federation and the New York Academy in july 2021 as Sporting Director.
I am a titular of a UEFA ’Pro’ and ‘Elite Youth A’ coaching licenses from the Royal Belgian FA. I also hold a "Director of Coaching" advanced diploma from United Soccer Coaches.
What is your favorite team and best player ?
My favorite current player is Sadio Mane, and I am a Marseille fan ! Allez les Bleus et allez l'OM !
